In most cases the owner is so incredibly busy that the service and quality level is never as good as it could or should be.  Employees are rarely managed at the level needed, equipment maintenance is behind, customers and prospects don’t always get called back, quotes are late, estimate are off the cuff guesses and inaccurate, collections are a frustrating nightmare, invoices go out late, the books and receipts are a mess, the paperwork required on each employee/contractor isn’t being gathered, there is way too much email to respond to, the marketing either isn’t happening or it’s not working, expenses are too high, some of the customers are so much trouble they are not worth having…

I've been an owner/partner in multiple service companies over the years. I've made some really good decisions and plenty of bad ones. I've had a few businesses that were mediocre and never became anything exciting and I'm working on a few that seem to be homeruns.
